Pluto is the 20th century’s most controversial space object. Disputes over its status eventually resulted in the revision of the definition planet. In fact, debates about the role of Pluto in the Solar System have been continuing ever since. The History of Research into Pluto tells a story of the discovery and demotion of the ninth planet. Its renaming triggered  further research, and this has subsequently presented the possibility to expand accepted boundaries of the Solar System.
